As I walked towards holy Ganges and Sangam, I could feel quiet and peace everywhere. An elderly gentleman praying sitting beside river and few sadhus walking towards ghat, they are clad in orange robes and pray quietly, a smoke of early morning tea somewhere and few guys just sleeping beside river…..India is magnificent and this was a place magical….I was spellbound.
In the fight of Nectar between Demons and Gods, few drops of nectar fell in four cities which is currently PrayagRaj, Nashik, Ujjain, and Haridwar. This fight lasted for 12 divine days considered as equivalent to 12 human years.
Kumbh Mela is a soulful experience, my visit to PrayagRaj in 2019 was mesmerizing. It was ArdhKumbh which comes every 6 years. I stayed there 6 days and that vibe still stays with me even after 2 years.
Chillam and naga sadhus who bare it all in winter months…crowd taking bath in holy river where all are same irrespective of power money or possessions….you can see co-existence everywhere… the way we came on this earth…humans, cows, dogs, beggars, rich people…. this entire experience just connects you to ancient human civilization.
I roamed and roamed every day, morning and evening for 6 days, attended prayers, spent few good hours with sadhus having tea and snacks with them without a single word sometimes and sometimes heard their stories…..just sat idle beside Ganges, observing people for hours, just trying to be part of them for few days, they were quiet but I could connect…
We stayed in tented accommodations just beside river, arrangements were fantastic and entire city was so well organized that first time I felt that Hindu festivals of these magnitude can be organised in a clean and efficient way
Kumbh is full of emotions and you can feel God there, I am not sure if you get nectar or get salvation…..but you definitely get peace…..
